Wyre Forest estate agent David Jones of Allan Morris & Jones looks at estate agency as portrayed bythe national media.

Once again the television cameras have been peeking into the working lives of estate agents. The latest BBC 2 fly-on-the-wall series called Under Offer has just come to an end and had be - come required view ing for many. So how did the estate agents in the series get on?

Many reality TV programmes always seem to look for the worst side of the story and usually find it, particularly where estate agents are concerned. But it is rarely the whole story.

It might be a difficult truth about an occupation that the public loves to hate, but the vast majority of people in estate agency are nothing like the fast-talking, slick and shifty tv caricature we are often shown.

As we see in this programme, agents’ personalities differ greatly depending on the community in which they operate.

If there is one thing that this documentary has made clearer than ever, it is that when selling or buying a property in the UK today, no matter what their location, everyone needs an estate agent who is willing and able to put in whatever effort is needed – sometimes against all odds - with the experience, commitment, skill, diplomacy and sheer willpower to keep it all together and make that deal happen.
