DVD - The Hitman (15)

10:31am Friday 18th April 2008

AN elite, cold-hearted assassin finds himself involved in a political conspiracy during which his world is turned upside down as he finds himself as the hunter and the hunted.

Agent 47, as he is affectionately known, becomes involved in a deadly chase, being pursued by both Interpol and the Russian military.

Then his life becomes embroiled with that of a beautiful, if slightly damaged, Russian woman and things get even more complicated.

If I have one thing to be grateful to this relatively average film for, which is based on a computer game, it's for introducing me to the work of lead man Timothy Olyphant.

As Agent 47, Olyphant seemed to have some sort of hypnotic hold on me throughout the film.

His piercing eyes and cold exterior were quite mesmerising and he was perfect for this role.

Apart from Olyphant, there is not a great deal of good acting to be found during The Hitman, although Dougray Scott, as Interpol's Mike Whittier, is relatively believable.

Overall, there's a lot of mediocrity to this film, including the acting and script, but there's a decent plot and enough well choreographed action to make it entertaining.

And of course, it features Timothy Olyphant which, believe me, is a good thing!
