BLACK Country comedy group the Fizzogs have conquered Mongolia after a video of their dancing grannies routine went viral on social media.

The Fizzogs became a global internet sensation in July 2014 after a recording of their spoof dance performance at Stourbridge Carnival was posted on Facebook.

Footage of the Black Country stage stars dancing in granny cardigans, glasses and wigs to pop tunes went viral and notched up 2.7 million likes on the social networking site.

This time round - a video of Fizzogs Sue Hawkins, Deb Nicholls and Jacky Fellows in their 'Ode Folk' outfits performing a flashmob dance to South Korean star Psy’s Gangnam Style at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival has received a staggering 8.3 million views worldwide on Facebook after it was picked up by a Mongolian record label.

The latest outbreak of Fizzog-mania, however, has mystified the three founder members of the group - who now have their own radio show on community station Black Country Radio.

Fizzog Sue said: “We don’t really know how the Mongolian company picked up the video. Maybe it’s because the music is by a South Korean pop star which would explain its appeal in the Far East.

“We haven’t a clue what is being said on the Mongolian Facebook page about us. We have tried it get it translated via Google without any success. What we might do now is contact the Mongolian Embassy in London to see if they can help us.

“The response to the video has been amazing. At one time we calculated it was being viewed at the rate of 8,000 times a minute. It’s just gone crazy.”

The Fizzogs, who swiftly followed up rave reviews in Edinburgh in August with a sell-out show at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre, are currently busy rehearsing for their forthcoming pantomime Freezin - a spoof of the hit movie Frozen.

The show, which sees the comedy stars reprising their roles as feuding families - the Froggatts and the Cotterills, is set to tour the Midlands from next month and will stop off at Netherton Arts Centre from December 10 to 12 and The Crescent Theatre in Birmingham on January 23.

It will also run at The Swan Theatre, Worcester, on February 5; The Gatehouse Theatre, Stafford, on February 6; The Theatre-on-the Steps, Bridgnorth, on February 12 and 13; and Wolverhampton's Arena Theatre on February 26 and 27.

Tickets cost £12 and are available online at www.thefizzogs.com/get-tickets-to-see-the-fizzogs/
