A STOURBRIDGE park will play host to a pop-up theatre today (Sunday) to celebrate the completion of multi-million pound improvement works.

Mary Stevens Park will be transported back in time with free performances of In the Land of Glass and Saucepans, which will be performed in the tea gardens at 11a, 1.30am and 3pm.

The unique short 30-minute comedy, about an accidental meeting between two people in the Black Country in 1931, is free to watch and is suitable for adults and children.

Limited seating and cover is available but people can take along picnics and blankets to enjoy the shows.

Cllr Hilary Bills, Dudley's cabinet member for environmental services, said: “The free pop-up theatre is a wonderful addition to the parks summer schedule and is a great way for families to enjoy one of our many beautiful green spaces.”

The shows mark the completion of major restoration work in the park, funded by £3.1m from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Big Lottery Fund, which has seen the park gates, war memorial, bandstand and Heath Pool restored to their former glory.

A new cafe and toilet facilities have also formed part of the park revamp.
