A PERFORMING arts school for four to 18-year-olds is set to open in Stourbridge with an open day tomorrow (Saturday, September 17).

The Pauline Quirke Academy (PQA), which focuses on the core modules of comedy and drama, musical theatre, and film and television, will be held weekly at Haybridge High School in Hagley.

Children will be taught a range of skills which are useful for everyday life, not just a career in the performing arts, while masterclasses allow students to experience more specialist lessons in areas like stage combat, beat boxing, street dance and magic.

Raj Bhambra, who has been appointed school principal, said: “I am absolutely honoured to be the principal of PQA Stourbridge.

“I love teaching children and young adults, as being able to pass on my knowledge and experience gave me such a feeling of fulfilment.

“Me and my team will endeavour to make sure our students leave PQA with the confidence to be themselves and take on the world with their heads held high.”

Pauline, best known for her role as Sharon in the long-running comedy series Birds of a Feather, said: “When we opened our first academy in 2007 our mission was simply to provide the very best performing arts education.

“We’ve grown a lot since then, but that mission hasn’t changed.

“By working with people we believe are outstanding in their field, we aim to bring the widest, most exciting experience to our students in an environment that is both friendly and rewarding.”

PQA Stourbridge’s free open day will take place at Haybridge High School from 9.45am until 1pm on Saturday.
