A STOURBRIDGE theatre group is celebrating after scooping a selection of awards for their latest production.

Students from The Side By Side Group for people with learning difficulties, based at St John's Church, St John's Road, collected The Worcestershire Theatre Festival trophy for dance, for their new play, The Bird.

Also at the festival, Side By Side won the Martin Smith trophy for best director and The Morley Watkins Shield for costumes, for The Bird, which is a drama told through movement, mime and dance.

The group won praise for the quality of the production which was described by judges as being in a "different class".

Side By Side are now preparing for their next appearance, at the Brighton Fringe Festival in May.

Meantime, members of the group who are part of the ACE programme at Stourbridge College are also on a high after winning four awards at the recent Dudley Festival of Music, Dance and Drama.
