WOLLESCOTE based Bethel Chapel will be able to go ahead with their traditional Good Friday service following a successful appeal for an organist through the Stourbridge News.

The chapel, in Hill Street, feared its choral society would not be able to perform The Crucifixion without an organist and launched an appeal through the News to recruit one last January.

Pastor Jill Berry said: "For many of our congregation Good Friday would not have been complete without this long standing tradition which has been taking place at Bethel for well over 60 years.”

Luckily, local organist Nick Stanbury stepped forward and rehearsals have been well underway.

Jill Berry added: "The response we had was very quick. In fact we had three or four other offers as well.

"We did have a little gap for two or three years when we couldn't perform The Crucifixion and we did something different. But it wasn't the same.”
