A COMMUNITY choir is celebrating its first birthday at a special anniversary concert this weekend.
Lapal Community Choir, which has members aged from six to 86, was formed last October by local vicar Rev Hazel Charlton as she was struggling to find a singing group that fitted in around her working hours.
From humble beginnings, the choir has now grown to a membership of more than 70 people, with several families singing together, including one spanning three generations.
To celebrate their first year milestone the choir – who sing a range of music from golden oldies to modern hits – will put on their anniversary concert on Saturday (October 7) featuring group members and also performances from local school choirs.
The free concert will start from 3pm at St Peters Church, in Hiplands Road, with all members of the community welcome.
Refreshments will be available and a raffle will be held during the event to raise money for charity.
