CHOIR members have celebrated their group’s first birthday in style after donating more than £600 for charity at an anniversary concert.

Lapal Community Choir put on a show at St Peter’s Church to mark the special occasion, performing some old favourites as well as some new numbers.

They were also joined by young musicians from local schools who showcased the up-and-coming talent Halesowen has to offer.

Emma Dowler from the Alzheimer's Association was present at the concert to receive the money the choir has raised for the charity during their first year.

Choir leader, Rev Hazel Charlton, said: “The choir chose to support the Alzheimer's Association because most of us have known someone who has been affected by dementia.

“We also really felt that with their ‘Singing for the Brain’ programme they were the perfect fit for our fundraising efforts.”

Buoyed up by the success of the concert, the choir have already begun rehearsals for their next one – a Christmas 'Jingle & Mingle' show.

The Christmas concert, which will also be held at St Peter’s Church, in Hiplands Road, will start at 3pm on December 9, including festive favourites followed by mulled wine and mince pies.
