Electric Dreams – The River Rooms, Stourbridge.

If eighties music and reliving your youth through it is your idea of a good night, then this four-piece band will be for you.

Starting with Dead or Alive’s ‘You Spin me Round’, they went through a variety of songs by varying eighties artists from Culture Club to Spandau Ballet to the Human League, finishing off with a great festive number from Wham.

Most of the songs were pretty solid versions of their originals, although another guitarist in the band would have been welcome.

And I think more could have been made of the female bass player’s voice because when she did provide backing vocals, she overshadowed the lead singer.

She could have done tracks by female solo artists like Whitney Houston or Madonna for example – she certainly had the looks.

But overall, the mainly 40-something crowd made up predominantly of divorcees and married woman who had been let off their leash for the night, lapped up the party atmosphere which the band did well to create and it will be a welcome return to the same venue for Electric Dreams tomorrow night (Friday December 16).
