Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt has promised that her new movie will be a “different twist on a feel-good film.”
Joanne plays support worker Val in A Street Cat Named Bob, the big screen adaptation of James Bowen’s best-selling book about his life as a homeless, drug-addicted busker and the stray ginger cat who helped him turn everything around.
The actress, who is best known for her role as lady’s maid Anna Bates in Downton Abbey, stars opposite Unbroken actor Luke Treadaway and the real cat Bob, who plays himself.
Joanne said: “It’s a different twist on a feel-good film. Because it’s real, because you see this person overcome these incredible obstacles through a connection with another being. That’s a very heart-warming story I think.”
The new trailer for the film shows the moment Bob jumped through James’s window and keeps him company as he detoxes from heroin. It also shows how important Bob was to increasing his busking income.
Luke revealed how important it was to include the real cat in the production, saying: “Bob is Bob – he brings a certain gravitas to the scene when he’s on set, that’s for sure.”
Ha added: “Meeting James and knowing James now – and Bob – it’s just so heart-warming to be around them and know what they went through and the kind of journey they’ve gone on.
“They go on this incredible journey where both of them save each other.”
A Street Cat Named Bob is released in UK cinemas on November 4.
