Irish songstress could be the one to walk in Gallagher's footsteps

Both hail from Ireland and Grainne, like Gallagher, builds her music around the sound of the electric guitar.

Grainne grew up in County Monaghan listening to her sister's Rolling Stones and Fleetwood Mac records while Peter Green and BB King were joining Gallagher among her guitar heroes and influences.

She developed her singing skills by performing with a church choir and, after completing a degree in music, she recorded her first album in 2007.

The record, called Out of The Dark, proved a springboard for her career and the following year she played three memorable sets at the Glastonbury Festival.

Since then she has shared a stage with artist including Joan Baez, Suzanne Vega, Sinead O Connor and Seasick Steve and built a fanbase around the globe.

Ahead of planned recording sessions for a new album Grainne Duffy and her band will be on the road in the UK this month for a tour, which will include a gig at Katie Fizgerald's in Stourbridge on Friday October 11.
