A BAND known for nocturnal fun is heading for the Black Country to keep the ball rolling on their return to the music scene.

Toploader sold two million albums after storming the charts with their single Dancing in The Moonlight which hit the top ten in 2000.

Despite being signed to major label Sony S2 and seeing their debut album, Onka’s Big Moka, stay in the UK album charts for over six months, the band were to fall out of favour as fast as they rose to glory.

Their second album, Magic Hotel, came out in 2003 and climbed high in the charts but was hammered by critics in the music press despite containing the catchy single Time of My Life.

After being dropped by their record company Toploader split, saying only they had decided to “call it a day”.

However the lineup of Joseph Washbourn (vocals and keys), Dan Hipgrave (guitar), Matt Knight (bass) and Rob Green (drums), returned in 2011 with a new album called Only Human.

Since then they have been busy on the live circuit while a more mature sound has won support for their singles including airplay on BBC Radio 2.

Dancing in The Moonlight also did well as a re-release, reaching number 23 in the UK charts.

Toploader will be playing live on stage at the Robin 2 in Bilston on Friday January 31.

Main support for the gig comes from Reddich rockers Killer New Shoes who were described by Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard as “awesome”.
