A WOMAN who has been tipped to make it big in stand-up comedy by Jason Manford is headlining a night of laughs in Wollaston tomorrow (Thursday).

Penella Mellor will perform at Fitz of Laughter Comedy Club, held in the intimate cellar bar at Katie Fitzgerald's.

Mellor is a previous winner of the Nando's Comedian of the Year competition and Manford is said to have told his agent to sign her up after seeing one of her gigs last year.

The single mother labels herself "not a good grown up" and will talk about her difficulties with parenting and dating.

She will be supported by former Royal Navy man Adam Rushton, the observational Paul Imrie and the deadpan Graham Milton.

The night will be held together by regular host and compere Wayne Beese, from Dudley, who was nominated for the Birmingham Comedy Festival Breaking Talent this year.

Beese, aged 34, said it “promises to be a great night of comedy” and added: “When I took the gig on I wanted to put the people who I consider to be the stars of tomorrow on, so in years to come people will be able to say 'I saw them first'.

"Penella certainly fits into that category. She is flying at the moment and you can't get commendations from many better people than Jason Manford.

"She is really funny and the other three acts have been hand-picked by me as well after seeing them on the circuit, so I can guarantee they are good."

Tickets for the event, which starts at 7.30pm, cost £5 and will be available on the door.
