THE story of the Suffragette movement is being shown at the Screen on the Green in Oldbury.

Abi Morgan’s historical drama Suffragette about the women who fought the establishment to get the vote in the 1900s is being shown on the Barlow Theatre’s 16 feet wide screen on Friday May 27.

Helen Bonham Carter and Meryl Streep star in the film which has been praised for showing the emotional battle the women waged to get what was rightfully theirs.

Miss Streep plays outlaw fugitive Emmeline Pankhurst who galvanises the Suffragette movement with her bravery and willingness to work with women from across the social strata.

An Oldbury Rep spokesman said: The Screen on the Green has a fully licensed bar and coffee shop, together with free adjacent car park and easy access by bus and rail, provides a stress-free evening at the pictures.”

Suffragette is certified 12 and starts at 7.30pm, tickets are £3.50 and can be bought on the door.
