FOR the first time in almost 40 years, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre will produce a full-scale in house production.

Brassed off will run at the popular venue from August 23 to September 2.

Jeffrey Holland, best known playing Spike in Hi-De-Hi, will take on the role of Danny, the ex-miner and veteran conductor of Grimley Colliery Band.

Danny’s lifelong ambition to lead the band to the National Brass Band Competition at the Royal Albert Hall looks like it might finally happen.

But as Grimley pit faces closure, the future looks bleak as the town is thrown into conflict.

When flugelhorn player Gloria arrives in town, she brings with her a renewed sense of hope and a touch of romance, but no-one knows who she’s really playing for.

Brassed off is produced by Wolverhampton Grand Theatre in association with talkingScarlet.

Other casting includes Christopher Connel who will play Phil, Miriam Grace Edwards as Sandra, Ash Matthews as Shane, Clara Darcy as Gloria and Eddy Massarella will play Andy.

They will be joined by Black Country actors Tim Jones as Harry, Greg Yates as Jim, Susie Wilcox as Vera and Donna Heaslip as Rita.

Sharing the young role of Craig will be Henry Hart, Samuel Allen Cooper and Alexander Hogg. Sharing the role of Melody will be Lydia Hart, Mollie Cotterill and Catherine Richmond-Maud.

Scott Bird, the Grand's press and PR manager, said: "Meeting our cast for the first time was a very special moment - we’re all working towards a new chapter in Grand Theatre history.

"The opportunity to produce our own drama production and have incredibly talented local actors and band members working with well-respected professional actors will no doubt create something very unique.”
