Stourbridge set for punk Jubilee bash

THE punk era exploded into life in the late 70s helped by the Sex Pistol's anthem God Save The Queen.

Back then Her Majesty was celebrating a Silver Jubilee, now she has hit the diamond milestone its creators are older and less angry and the tune is itself is woven into Britain's cultural fabric.

The mark the Queen's Jubilee a Stourbridge venue is recreating the spirit of '77 by playing host to top tribute act Punk'd.

The band base their set on the all-time punk top 30 and aim to play with the energy and attitude of bands like the Sex Pistols and The Clash.

Dave Powell, from Punk'd, said: "Punk was always anti-royal. Everything is very pro-jubilee and this will be a contrast.

"We asked the council if we could play in Stourbridge town centre but the wouldn't let us."

Instead, Punk'd will be on stage at The River Rooms, Mill Race Lane, on Monday June 4.
