Pop grunge band Garbage are back on the road

AMERICAN-based band Garbage emerged at the end of the grunge era determined to produce a new sound.

They had close links to creators of Grunge, drummer Butch Vig and guitarist Steve Marker were already well-known album producers for the Sub Pop label and Vig boasted credits including the Nirvana album Nevermind.

Garbage released their debut album in 1995, which they said was written as a pop record, and found instant success with singles Stupid Girl and Only Happy When It Rains.

Their second album, Version 2.0, was released in 1998 and topped the charts in the United Kingdom and a year later the band recorded the theme tune for the James Bond film The World is Not Enough.

By the turn of the century Garbage were busy with a third album, Beautiful Garbage but it failed to have the commercial success of the first two releases and by 2005, despite their next album Bleed Like Me reaching number four on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart, they had effectively split up.

They reunited eighteen months later to remix a retrospective called Absolute Garbage and went on to start work on new material.

The band is currently on the road with their latest album, Not Your kind of People, and Scottish singer Shirley Manson seems glad to be back.

She said: "Thinking about going back on the road is both thrilling and terrifying in equal measure but we've always enjoyed a little pain mixed in with our pleasure."

Garbage will be playing live at Wolverhampton Civic Hall on Monday July 2.
