Carl Donnelly, The Comedy Hut, The Mitre, Stourbridge.

The Comedy Hut continues to bring outstanding acts at affordable prices to Stourbridge and this month excelled itself with Carl Donnelly.

The 2013 Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee delivered an outstanding performance in an hour long set and followed on from excellent sets by main support act Joe Bromehead, Jack Kerwan and Freddie Quinn.

Donnelly, at 31, is a veteran of the comedy circuit and television shows like Mock The Week and Russell Howard's Good News and immediately it was clear why this was the case.

Using a combination of relaxed interaction with the audience and funny tales that might have been seen to be rambling with a less skilled comedian, Donnelly produced a polished performance in his second appearance of the night.

In particular, his observation on the differences between same sex relationships and those between and man and woman stood out, as did his tale of a visit to Australia and a visit to a zoo there.

Rude at times but not crude, above all, he kept his audience interested and entertained throughout and DOnnelly will go down as one of the best headliners at the Comedy Hut in its history, certainly from this year.

The evening was well compared by Adam Rushton.

The Comedy Hut is held on the second Wednesday of every month, for more details and tickets go to www.comedyhut.org.
