DVD - Beerfest (18)

AFTER their grandfather dies, brothers Todd (Erik Stolhanske) and Jan Wolfhouse (Paul Soter) have to travel from America to Germany to spread his ashes.

While in Germany they discover Beerfest, the most extreme drinking competition in the world.

Unfortunately, they also find their family's bitter relatives, the Von Wolfhausens, who drink them under the table and humiliate them.

In order to bring honour to America the brothers decide to spend the next year putting together a team of beer drinkers so they can return and beat their family rivals.

During this time the guys end up in stupid situations, cause lots of trouble and just get drunk.

None of the characters act realistically and the accents of the competitors are ridiculous, especially the Germans, who sound like real German actors putting on accents.

Maybe it shouldn't be judged too harshly though, as the film itself takes great delight in being stupid and far from serious.

There are, however, films like Anchorman or Napoleon Dynamite, which are stupid but at the same time very good.

Beerfest is certainly not one of these.
