Everyone has their favourite James Bond. And Roger Moore’s recent revelation that he ranks himself at number four got us thinking.

So we’ve taken a vote and here are the best known Bond stars ranked, from 007 to Number One!

007. David Niven

Niven was Bond creator Ian Fleming’s first choice to play Bond in Dr No, but he comes bottom of our list.

But his turn in 1967 spoof movie Casino Royale is still well worth a watch.

006. George Lazenby

Aussie Lazenby only played 007 once, in the 1969 film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service – in which he became the only Bond to tie the knot.

005. Timothy Dalton

Welshman Dalton played Bond twice – in 1987′s The Living Daylight and two years later in Licence To Kill.

Some said Dalton lacked the charm and humour of previous Bonds, but others relished the gritty side to his performance.

004. Daniel Craig

The current James Bond only comes in at number four in our ranking. Daniel took over the role in 2006 for the remake of Casino Royale, but many criticised his debut, and follow up film Quantum Of Solace as wooden.

But in 2012 Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes took the helm for Skyfall and won praise for harking back to old-school Bond. Let’s hope he can pull it off with Spectre too.

003. Pierce Brosnan

Irish actor Pierce signed up to play 007 in 1995′s GoldenEye and went on to star in three more films: Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day.

You certainly can’t criticise Pierce’s effort as being lacking in humour, and those piercing blue eyes are hard to resist.

002. Roger Moore

Sir Roger may think he’s number four – but we say he’s being too hard on himself. Many people say he’s their number one, but our poll puts him second. He was charming, charismatic and smooth – everything a good Bond should be.

Roger played James Bond for seven films from 1973 to 1985 – Live and Let Die, The Man with the Golden Gun, The Spy Who Loved Me, Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only, Octopussy and A View to a Kill.

001. Sean Connery

Nobody does it better – the original and the best. Scot Sir Sean Connery is our number one Bond. A tough guy, a ladies’ man and a gent, he was all the things you look for in the ultimate 007.

Connery brought Ian Fleming’s famous Spy to life for the first time in 1962′s Dr No, and went on to star in From Russia with Love, Goldfinger, Thunderball, and You Only Live Twice before passing on the baton to Roger Moore. He then reprised the role in 1971 and appeared in Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again.
