Garden fires are a menace

Is there anyone else out there living at the top of Rowley enjoying the hot, sunny weather only for it to be spoilt by some household having a garden fire again?

I had all my washing out and windows and patio door open relaxing when the terrible smell of fire came drifting in.

We should all have green garden bins and recycling bins, so why do inconsiderate people still light garden bonfires at the start of spring every year?

garden fires should be banned, we have recycle bins to but a majority of garden rubbish in, also I think the council should bring back in twice a year bulk rubbish collections. This would hopefully stop people having to burn the rubbish. Fires should not be lit either till after 1900hrs, although they should be banned, get the fire service to put them out...

I have to say that now that bulk council collections have stopped you will probably see or smell more. The councils seem to forget that there are people out there that do not have access to transport for the tip and do not have the funds for a skip. What option do these people have?

Does this mean you are calling for a ban on bonfire night too?

I quite like the smell of a fire. I do however object to the smell of dead animals being cremated on BBQ though!

Perhaps you should try eating your washing then after some idiot has lit a fire it probably tastes better than a bbq.

Very childish!

I was trying to make a point, clearly you missed the point of 'where to draw the line'.

Clearly a particular type of fire or reason for a fire is ok?

It's just the people burning certain things you object to!

Well now people know what to do if they have stuff to burn, slap on a steak and call it a BBQ no one can moan then.

Smile Chris, there are much worse things to worry about.
Got to go the chargrilled t shirt is going to be over done!

Yes i do object to idiots lighting fires while we are enjoying time in our garden. I've seen many occassions when these fires have got out of control and the firebrigades time is wasted. If you call the council they can arrange to take away any items you don't want and what items do the poor people of the area need to burn anyway? Oh i suppose you've got to get rid of the old three piece some how havn't you or even the fridge or old cooker ( you might have trouble setting fire to these items by the way) How about the old car on the front of your garden that might burn well, or even the old cuboards now you have your new kitchen fitted eh? Come on there is rarely a need for any kind of fire these days is there really?

You do get around expressing your opinions francis don't you? Even into garden fires now EH! Try abit of flouride every now and again it might help keep some of those rotting brain cells. Try to be more literate will you or is your eye sight going as well.

Hi all, I found this site very useful (gardenlaw.co.uk)on fires from burning rubbish to BBQ's. I was looking for some kind of law as to when they can be lit but sadly there are none. My wonderful new neighbours lit their fire at 10.45am and still going strong now 3.55pm. They have a huge metal drum and are kindly emptying the ashes at the bottom of their garden so the wind can blow it about. This is only one of several annoying things that they do but I'l mention them on another tag :). I have to agree there should be some legislation on daytime fires, as I like to dry my bedding natures way on the line thus saving costly electric.

Chris can you explain your obsession with flouride. Maggie seemed to like the flouride too, she increased it in the water by ten times during the troubles in northern ireland.
As for you comments about the fridge and the freezer well I find putting it in my gas guzzling 4 X 4 and driving it to the tip much better.
I object to people cooking dead animals, but there is nothing I can do about it. It is just one off those things in life you have to put up with!
I can't image you enjoying anything, you seem to spend much of your time adding comments here!

Flouride is something that matters to mr francis not me it's a kind of joke. Nothing wrong with 4 by 4 's they are ok especially for dumping rubbish but garden fires are a pain especially in the sunmmer I am only agreeing with the letter writer As for dead animals thats ok as long as they are dead before they hit the bbq. Plenty in life to enjoy especially these comments pages its good to give an opinion and see how people react.
