A GRATEFUL Halesowen dad has launched a £2,000 fundraising bid for Birmingham Children’s Hospital after his son was treated there for meningitis.

Recruitment consultant Gareth Simpson has won a place in next year’s London Marathon and is organising a quiz, world record attempt and golf day to raise the cash.

The 34-year-old wanted to support the hospital as a thank you for the treatment and care his son Morley received there when he was a baby.

The youngster, now a fit and healthy three-year-old, had contracted a strand of meningitis, which, thankfully, was not life-threatening.

Mr Simpson, of Southwick Road, said: “I have been fundraising for the last three years, running the Birmingham Half Marathon and have a strong affiliation to the hospital.”

He is organising a quiz and curry - courtesy of Balti Towers - at the Conservative Social Club, Long Lane, on Sunday December 2 at 7pm, followed by a world record attempt at Lye Football Club for the most ever in a five-a-side match in January and a golf day and auction at Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club in March.

Quiz and curry tickets, priced £5, are available from Mr Simpson on 07980720884 or by emailing garethrunning4bch@yahoo.co.uk His marathon run can be sponsored at justgiving.com/Gareth-Simpson2
