Mayor of Dudley will flick switch on Halesowen's Christmas lights

FAMILIES are expected to flock to Halesowen next week when the town holds its annual Christmas lights switch on event.

The town will be swathed in a festive glow on Saturday November 17 with the Mayor of Dudley councillor Melvyn Mottram doing the honours and flicking the switch at 5.30pm.

There will be a family fun day from 1pm featuring live entertainment and the Free Radio stage in Somers Square.

Halesowen Ukulele Band, Ellmfield Community Choir and the Halesowen's Got Talent 2012 winner will all perform for the crowds.

There will also be children’s amusements in the Cornbow Shopping Centre to keep youngsters entertained.

Councillor Tracy Wood, Dudley Council’s cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “Halesowen is a fantastic place to do your Christmas shopping and with such a popular switch-on event we’re expecting the town to be very busy.

“Dudley Council is helping traders to organise and run Christmas events in all our town centres as we know they offer a valued boost to local businesses.”

The swicth on event is being staged in conjunction with Halesowen Chamber of Trade.
