'Bridge broadcasters buoyant after watchdog gives licence thumbs up

BLACK Country broadcasters are celebrating after radio regulator Ofcom gave their station a five-year long thumbs up.
Stourbridge-based community station 102.5 The 'Bridge has had its broadcasting licence renewed by the industry watchdog for another five years.
The announcement comes as the station nears the end of its original licence period, which began when it officially launched on new Year's Day in 2008.
Bridge radio's chief executive, Alex Totney, said: "The renewal is yet another landmark step for 102.5 The ’Bridge and demonstrates what the station has achieved in the five years it has been on-air.
“Our team of volunteers, which has trebled since the station launched, should be extremely proud of the care and professionalism that they demonstrate every day, both on-air and off-air, to produce such diverse and unique radio broadcasting."
The 'Bridge broadcasts across the southern Black Country to an area including Dudley and Halesowen as well as Stourbridge.
The station is staffed by 75 volunteers and broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Alex Totney added: "There is no better endorsement of what our volunteers do every day than to have our licence renewed by Ofcom.
“We now intend to build on what we have achieved in the first five years on-air and continue to improve the public service that 102.5 The ’Bridge strives to offer."
