A Halesowen ex-serviceman was handed his prestigious Veteran's Badge by town MP Sylvia Heal who called for similiar veterans to come forward.

Raymond Gaul served in the Merchant Navy and the Royal Air Force Police in Cyprus and is now Honorary Welfare Officer of the Halesowen Branch of the Royal Air Force Association.

The HM Armed Forces Veterans Badge was launched in May 2004 and is available to all First and Second World War veterans. The honour now extends to anyone who served up until 1959, which features Raymond.

Mrs Heal said: "I was delighted to be able to present Raymond with his badge - he is typical of many men and women who have served their country with pride. The Veteran's Badge allows veterans to be recognised in the local community and I hope more people who are eligible will apply."
