The MAYOR of Dudley’s charities are in line for more pounds as a Halesowen councillor sets about shedding weight for good causes.

Councillor Donella Russell will be losing weight over the next six months and donating sponsorship to the Mayor of Dudley’s charities.

The 42-year-old, who represents the Belle Vale ward, has already lost 9lb since starting her health kick on November 1, but is keen to lose more.

Cllr Russell, said: “I’ve already lost a bit of weight and I feel better for it.

“I thought if I announced this publicly it would help me keep on pushing myself.

“It is also an opportunity for me to raise some money for charity, so everyone benefits.”

This year the Mayor’s chosen charities are Diabetes UK – Stourbridge, Dudley and District Support Group and Dudley Stroke Association.

Councillor Melvyn Mottram, Mayor of Dudley said: “I’m grateful to people who go out of their way to raise money for these very worthwhile causes.

“I hope people will give what they can to help these charities continue the important work they do.”

Councillor Russell has already been offered help from the NHS run Public Health including advice on help groups in the borough as well as tips on healthy eating and keeping fit.

She has also been given information on Get Cooking and Nordic walking classes.

The council works closely with Public Health to promote healthy eating and exercise to tackle obesity.

Councillor Zafar Islam, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “There are a range of services available for people who are looking to get fit and active which will have a life-changing effect.”
