Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotarians meet Birmingham Children's Hospital staff
ANOTHER chunk of the money raised by the Halesowen Fun Run has been donated to charity.
The Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club presented the cancer ward at Birmingham Children’s Hospital with £2,000.
Hundreds of people completed the five kilometre fun run in September and along with sponsors raised £6,000 for charity, £2,000 which has already been donated to the Air Ambulance.
Fun Run organisers and Rotarians visited the hospital’s children’s cancer ward where they met with nurses and the hospital’s fundraising team. Rotary Club vice-president Brian Maxfield said: “A small group of us were invited along to visit the cancer ward and it was very interesting for us to have the opportunity to meet some of the staff and hear first-hand about the importance of this particular appeal.
“The improved facilities will make such a huge difference for the young children and their families, who sometimes have to spend many months in the ward in somewhat cramped surroundings.” The money donated will help improve facilities and provide a more comfortable environment for children and parents.
Mr Maxfield added: “I’m sure the many people who took part in the Fun Run last year will be very pleased to know that some of the money they helped to raise is going towards such a worthy project and the Halesowen and Rowley Regis Rotary Club are very proud to be able to donate £2,000 to help support the Children’s Cancer Centre Appeal on their behalf.”
The remainder of £6,000 raised from the fun run will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Nurses. Birmingham Children’s Hospital fundraising team are aiming to raise £4m to provide more beds, create rooms with en-suite bathrooms, build a welcoming room for parents and improve facilities on a par with the neighbouring Teenage Cancer Trust Unit which was opened in 2010.
