Wandering knife carrying Oldbury man put under supervision
7:00am Tuesday 12th February 2013 in News
A DEPRESSED Oldbury man who popped out of his house whilst cooking dinner with a six inch knife has been placed on supervision for a year.
Shane Bostock, aged 47, told police he had been cooking and had gone to a neighbour's because he was missing ingredients, not realising he still had the knife.
Phillip Bradley, defending, told Wolverhampton Crown Court: "He did not use the knife to threaten anyone and there is no suggestion he was waving it around."
Bostock, of Brookfields Road, admitted being in possession of a bladed article and he was told by Recorder Adam Feest people carrying knives in public were normally sent straight to prison.
David Lees, prosecuting, said a man cycling to work spotted Bostock holding a knife on the footpath and he appeared to be "somewhat agitated."
The court was told Bostock, who suffered from anxiety and depression, had a number of previous convictions, including the possession of an offensive weapon and common assault.
