Cradley Heath firefighters appear on US TV after dramatic dog rescue
4:22pm Thursday 21st February 2013 in News
VIDEO footage of Cradley Heath fire fighters rescuing a trapped Staffordshire Bull Terrier has been shown on a American news channel.
The dog fell into the canal off Factory Road, Tipton on February 13, shortly before 11.30am, but became trapped behind a vertical ladder attached to the wall.
Fire crews from Cradley Heath, Dudley and Perry Barr attended and used specialist cutting equipment to remove a section of the ladder to free the dog, who thanked its rescuers with a quick nuzzle of their faces.
The rescue, which lasted around 40 minutes, was captured on a mobile phone by a passer-by and posted to You Tube, but was picked up by an American news channel which aired the footage with its own dramatic style.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said the dog was wrapped in a foil blanket for warmth and received treatment by the PDSA for shock and cold. To see the American news piece click here.
