SOME of Halesowen’s most loved volunteers have been presented with medals by the Mayor for their hard work and dedication.
A host of community spirited residents from around the borough who scooped Dudley Volunteer Awards last year were invited to join Councillor Melvyn Mottram for a civic reception, tour and afternoon tea in the Mayor’s parlour at Dudley Council House.
As an additional surprise the winners were also presented with unique bronze medals, designed and made by students from Stourbridge’s Glasshouse College.
Those honoured included Bob Hickman for his dedication to Halas Hawkes Junior Football Club, Chairman of Halesowen Athletic and Cycling Club, Bob Fowkes, for giving up 47 years of his time to the club and 18 year-old Ryan Howard who gives up every weekend to coach soccer skills to children.
Andy Gray, Dudley CVS Chief Officer said: "The event has been a wonderful reminder of the outstanding contribution made by our borough’s army of fantastic volunteers. It has been a real honour to award these medals in recognition of the community heroes that all they truly are.”
The event, which was organised by voluntary sector support charity, Dudley CVS, was initially planned for New Year but heavy snowfall hampered plans and forced a rescheduling.
