Sandwell residents urged to buy compost bins before price rise
5:00pm Saturday 2nd March 2013 in News
HOUSEHOLDERS have four weeks left to buy a discounted compost bin from Sandwell Council before they go up in price.
The cheapest compost bin currently on offer by the council costs £16 with a £5.49 delivery charge. The cost will rise by 98p from April.
Cabinet member for neighbourhood services Councillor Ian Jones said: “While the new deal still offers superb value, I’d encourage anyone thinking of getting into composting to buy a bin before the end of March to save that little bit extra."
He added: “We want to encourage residents to reduce the amount of waste that they have to throw away each week. "
"Composting selected kitchen and garden waste is an easy and effective way of reducing, reusing and recycling some of the daily waste we produce, while providing significant benefits for our gardens and the wider environment.
"It is simple to do and once you get started, you will be surprised at just how much daily household waste can be recycled this way."
There is also a buy one, get one half price offer, for residents with larger gardens or those who team up with a neighbour.
Compost bins and accessories can be ordered via www.getcomposting.com or by calling 0844 571 4444.
