Community boost for Rowley Regis estate
9:00am Sunday 3rd March 2013 in News
COMMUNITY spirit is “alive and well” on a Rowley Regis estate, with young people at the heart of activities.
A series of events at the Brickhouse Community Centre, Dudhill Road, has brought people together, says community assistant Christine Smith.
She said: “Over the past year, the young women’s group that meets here every Monday night have helped out at the Jubilee event, Halloween and Christmas party – I cannot praise them enough.
" By helping here, they’ve also had the opportunity to take food hygiene courses and get their certificates.
“The Brickhouse Tenants’ and Residents’ Association is also playing a big role and the local Spar shop has donated paint so we can decorate the centre.
“Local boys and girls from here have gone along to organised youth events at the Coneygre Centre and the council’s youth bus parks up by the Spar every Saturday from 5pm to 7pm, providing activities for young people.
“Community spirit here is alive and well – and we’re always looking to see what other events and activities we can put on.”
Town lead councillor Barbara Price added: "It is marvellous to see how everyone is working together to improve the area and make it a better place for everyone."
