AN established Cradley Heath company was given a lift when Sandwell’s mayor and mayoress paid a visit after presenting one of its apprentices with an award.

Councillor Keith Davies and his wife Pat toured Lift and Engineering Services, meeting management, workers and trainees.

The visit was arranged after 24-year-old Alex Shaw received an award from Sandwell Council in recognition of his commitment to his apprenticeship.

The company employs 12 young apprentices on a variety of schemes and last year boosted its workforce by 20 to almost 100.

Service and operations director Steve Smith said it had been an honour to welcome the mayor and mayoress to the Portersfield Road factory.
