A CASH and carry wholesale worker from Oldbury has clinched a national colleague of the year title and a cheque for £2,500.

Rachel Hipkiss, who has worked for Makro in Halesowen for five years was nominated after winning the hearts of minds of her team She was promoted from cashier to customer service supervisor last July and was shortlisted out of 3,700 employees across Makro’s 30 UK stores.

Store manager Mark McGeehan said: “Rachel was nominated because she has gone from strength to strength in her role and has overcome numerous obstacles to win the hearts and minds of her team.

“Her ‘can do’ and ‘will to win’ attitude is nothing but infectious throughout her department and indeed the whole store.

Ms Hipkiss added: “I’ve worked at Makro for almost five years and in that time built up some fantastic relationships with colleagues and more importantly our customers.

“I’m so proud to have been awarded this title and I thank all my colleagues for supporting me and helping me to develop my skills. I have been saving up for a deposit on a house - and my prize money has boosted me to my target amount.”
