AN OLD Hill church is holding a gospel concert this month as part of a fundraising drive to restore the historic building back to its former glory.
The congregation of Holy Trinity Church, Halesowen Road, have rallied round to raise over £12,000 towards the bill of repairing the north transept.
Due to the historic importance of the church English Heritage are also involved in the project and have donated £15,000 towards the bill of restoring the Grade II church which was built 140 years ago.
However, more needs to be raised and the church is organising a string of events to help bring in the money.
The critically acclaimed Unite Gospel Choir will be performing on Saturday, March 23 at 7.30pm, tickets cost £6 each or £20 for a family ticket.
The church’s community fundraising group are planning an event in May to celebrate the church organ being restored and a Harvest “Band and Balti” evening is planned for October.
Church publicity officer Rachel Ford said: “Holy Trinity has been truly blessed over the last year. “A major repair to the church organ is currently being carried out and the loan taken out just over a year ago to pay for the new central heating boilers has recently been paid off early and in full. “And now the funds are in place to complete the work needed to the roof.”
She added: “But while the work on the roof progresses, fundraising continues with a view to carrying out even more work as directed by the church’s architect.” Tickets for the Unite Gospel Choir are available on 01384 411592 or 07885 255862.
