Naked teenager runs amok through murder victim's Halesowen school
7:50am Thursday 14th March 2013 in News
AN anxious parent is calling for increased security at the Halesowen school attended by murder victim Christina Edkins after a former pupil charged into the school grounds naked during morning break yesterday behaving “irrationally and in an emotional state”.
The teenager, believed to be about 18, was finally apprehended after entering Leasowes High School near the art department and is now being cared for by his family and appropriate professionals.
In a letter to parents, headteacher Neil Shaw said: “This has been a testing time for us all and the unfortunate problem that arose today is perhaps a symptom of the confusion and emotional strife we are all enduring.”
“But I remain immensely proud of how the school and the local community have worked together to face such a terrible tragedy with such courage and dignity.”
The father, who did not want to be named, said his son was with friends during break at about 11am when they saw the youth running naked across the playground.
He said: “The fact that the guy got in showed weaknesses in the school security. He could have been wielding a knife or a gun, like at Dunblane.”
In the letter, Mr Shaw, who was not available to speak to the News, said he was writing to reassure parents “the matter was dealt with quickly and efficiently”.
