Christina's killing touches hearts of Halesowen shoppers

First published in

SHOPPERS have donated more than £1,300 to checkout collections at Halesowen’ s ASDA store - one of several across Birmingham and the Black Country raising money in memory of murdered Leasowes schoolgirl Christina Edkins.

What began as a simple collection in the town’s Cornbow Centre ASDA has been rolled out to Oldbury, Merry Hill, Quinton, Cape Hill, Perry Barr and Small Heath.

A spokesman for the RIP Christina Edkins Facebook group said: “The money will be given to the family to cover the costs of the funeral but also for things like a bench, plaque or whatever the family sees fit for her memory.”

Halesowen Asda’s training co-ordinator said: "The buckets will be there until the end of the week. People have put £10 and £20 notes in them - this is close to people’s hearts and she was a local girl.”

To send cheques for the appeal mark them FAO Community Colleague, ASDA Queensway, Halesowen, B63 4AD.
