New learning room at Oldbury school named after teacher

STAFF and pupils at an Oldbury school have paid homage to a much-loved teacher who died suddenly by naming new aqua sensory and learning room after him.

Tony Zaidel, who taught at The Meadows Sports College special school, died from a heart attack at home last month.

His widow Jo Zaidel visited the Dudley Road East school to officially open the room named after the 52-year-old sports co-ordinator.

She said the room, created out of a former store cupboard, was now an “exceptional learning environment”.

‘He would have been really proud, he always put students’ enjoyment first, then learning,” said Mrs Zaidel.

Headteacher Gordon Phillips said Mr Zaidel had been eager to get the room completed so that those who could not swim were not left out.

Mrs Zaidel added: “I am delighted with the enthusiasm of all staff who continue to build on his many achievements.”
