Housing group boss steps down

A LONG-serving chief executive is standing down after 23 years at the helm of the Blackheath-based Black Country Housing Group.

Sandra Spence will leave the organisation, which manages 2,000 homes across the Black Country and Birmingham, in the summer.

During her reign, BCHG has diversified its operations to offer services including a home improvement agency, domiciliary care, sheltered accommodation, a sustainability consultancy and employment and training services.

She is passionate about the green agenda and oversaw its first low carbon housing development in 1999.

Ms Spence also championed, in partnership with Sandwell Council, the development of the award-winning Blackheath library and offices from where the group operates.
