Drug user claimed 28 cannabis plants were just for him

A DRUG user who was caught growing 28 cannabis plants at his Oldbury home claimed they were to feed his own £30 a day habit.

Joginder Niner escaped jail and was given a four month prison sentence suspended for two years after telling a judge they were for his own use.

The 25-year-old, who had been smoking cannabis since he was 14, said he could not afford to buy the controlled drug because he also had a drink problem.

Niner, Hagley Road West, told Wolverhampton Crown Court he thought the crop would have lasted him about five months.

He admitted producing cannabis and was also placed on supervision for a year by Judge John Warner, ordered to attend drug rehabilitation programme and to pay £200 costs.

Howard Searle, prosecuting, said police went to Niner's former home in Old Bridge Walk, Rowley Regis, on Boxing Day on an unrelated matter and discovered the cannabis.
