Golf club-wielding drunk racially abused victim

A DRUNK Oldbury man armed with a golf club hurled racial abuse and humilitated his victim, a court heard.

Steven Griffiths faced a return to Wolverhampton Crown Court over the affray after breaching his supervision and anti-social behaviour orders.

The 20-year-old, of Wolverhampton Road, was sentenced to 10 months in a young offenders institution suspended for 18 months.

He was also ordered to obey a weekend curfew for three months and pay £350 costs.

Griffiths had previously been given a community order for the affray including 12 months supervision and 100 hours unpaid work.

Re-sentencing him, Judge Michael Challinor said this was his last chance to avoid imprisonment, describing the affray as “a nasty offence” during which he subjceted the man to a “torrent of racial abuse”.
