No major disruption as winter clings on

THE return of winter weather seems to be causing only minimal disruption around the region with councils reporting no major problems.

Dudley Council says gritters were out throughout the night and bin and recycling collections are operating as normal.

Cotwell End Primary School in Sedgley was set to open at 10am and High Arcle School, also in Sedgley, was due to open from 10.30am for year and ten and eleven pupils and schools in Hagley are open as normal.

The bad weather is expected to continue into the weekend, prompting a warning fro emergency medics.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “In those areas affected by snowfall we would urge people to allow additional time for their journey and make sure you have warm clothing, a mobile phone and warm drinks in your vehicle before you set off.”

"The public is also being urged to make sure they choose well when they access the NHS at this time.

"The 999 service is for life-threatening conditions and emergencies, such as chest pain, stroke, serious blood loss or a state of unconsciousness.

"Other agencies, such as NHS Direct on 0845 46 47, are available to offer advice and assistance on less urgent cases."
