THE Labour Party launched a new national poster campaign in Halesowen today signalling the start of the run up to the 2015 General Election.

Deputy chairman Tom Watson MP unveiled the Who Wants to Bung a Millionaire? - Dave Does - poster on Birmingham street along with local Labour councillors and activists.

The poster, which is a play on words on the old Cole Porter song Who Wants to be a Millionaire, contrasts tax breaks for the well off with cuts in benefits and working tax credits.

Mr Watson said: “We had an amazing response in Halesowen town centre with several people joining the party as people are really angry with what is happening now with this Government.

“This is the month that millions of families up and down Britain will lose money through the bedroom tax, loss of benefits and tax credits at the same time that the Government gives millionaires an extraordinary tax break.

“Normal families are losing on £891 from their budget each year whilst millionaires are getting a £100,000 tax break and we are now seeing how unpopular this is within the country.“

The West Bromwich East MP took his giant poster van through neighbouring constituencies Dudley South and Stourbridge after leaving Halesowen.

Mr Watson pinpointed the Halesowen and Rowley Regis constituency as vitally important bellweather seat for Labour’s chances in the General Election.

He said: “We have started this poster campaign here because the national Labour party know that the West Midlands is a vital battleground in the country.

“For Labour to be successful in the General Election we know that we have to do well in Halesowen and Rowley Regis as well as Dudley South and Stourbridge.”
