A SPURNED Oldbury lover stabbed his former partner's new beau with a 12 inch kitchen knife in a jealous rage.

Ramon Gill, aged 23, was put behind bars for 40 months for the attack after appearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Judge Amjad Nawaz said: "She is in a new relationship and you have got to learn to live with that.

"You clearly lost your temper finding a man who was a stranger to you in the company of your former partner and your child."

The judge said he had entered his ex-girlfriend’s home when he was not expected and had gone to the kitchen and armed himself with the large knife.

He said Gill had lunged at the man's chest with the weapon but he put up his arm to defend himself only to suffer a stab wound by his elbow that damaged tendons.

"This was a dangerous manoeuvre with a knife when you were in an angry mood," he told Gill.

"You could have been facing a much more serious charge or even murder.”

He added: “That is the folly of arming yourself with a knife."

The judge said that when the victim ran out of the woman's Smethwick home he was chased down the street by Gill who was still brandishing the knife and he had to take refuge in a shop.

Gill of Pool Lane admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and he accepted he had "completely lost control," said Mr Colin McCarraher defending.

This was not a planned attack, he added, and while the injury Gill inflicted on the victim it could have been "so much worse."

Mr Howard Searle prosecuting said Gill had been in a relationship with his ex-partner and they had a daughter but it ended and she started going out with another man.
