THE new Mayor of Dudley got a year of fundraising for good causes under way with visit from a four-legged friend.

Cllr Alan Finch will be raising cash for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People and Cancer Support, Whitehouse, Dudley  during his year in office.

He invited representatives from both organisations to the Mayor's Parlour at Dudley Council House on June 5 to learn more about their vital work.

During the visit Bruno the dog demonstrated how hearing dogs help people with hearing impairments in the same way that guide dogs can be the eyes of blind people.

Cllr Finch said: “It was great to meet the representatives from the two charities and find out more about the work they do.

“They make such a big difference to the people who rely on their support, from people with cancer and their families to the people who need a dog to get out and about, I urge people to support them.

“There will be a number of events throughout the year where I will be urging people to give what they can to help these very worthwhile causes continue the work they do.”

Council staff and councillors will be raising money throughout the year for the mayor’s charities through a range of events including as football and cricket matches.
