A HALESOWEN building society is calling on local residents to help them decide which good cause will get a cash donation.

Yorkshire Building Society new scheme Charity Choices will see each branch donate £1,000 to more than 20 local charities.

The scheme will launch in the Yorkshire’s Halesowen branch at Hagley Mall Cornbow Shopping Centre, on Friday.

Existing customers and members of the public will be invited to vote for their favourite of three charities to receive a cash donation. The charities which are set to benefit are Project for the Elderly, which provides a comfortable meeting place for retired citizens to meet friends, Birmingham Children’s Hospital Charity and Make a Wish Foundation.

The number of votes received by each charity by the end of the three-week voting period will determine the amount of money each receives; the one with the most will receive £500, second place £300 and in third place £200.

Another scheme Small Change, Big Difference sees members donate the pennies from the interest they receive on their accounts, just once a year, before nominating charities that are close to their hearts to receive support.

Hayley Scott, Halesowen Branch Manager, said: “Pennies make pounds and small change can make a big difference to local charities.

“The charities benefiting are all important to our local community and it’s great that it’s our members and local residents that have the ultimate say on where the money goes – we hope everyone will take the opportunity to come into the branch during the launch to make their vote count.”
