SCORES of youngsters have been enjoying summer fun at a Halesowen high school ahead of registering their for the first time next month.

The two-week programme for the forthcoming Leasowes year seven pupils aimed to ease the transition from primary to secondary education, mixing literacy and numeracy tuition with pastoral care and action-packed activities including a dunk tank, gladiator duel and art attack.

The youngsters had the chance to get to know their fellow classmates and meet some of the teachers while getting to grips with what the key stage 3 curriculum has in store for them.

The programme also featured a visit to the National Outdoor Water Sports Centre for kayaking, sailing, raft building and assault course activities.

The summer school, at Leasowes recently refurbished Greenhill Alternative Learning Campus, Long Lane, ended with a graduation ceremony and disco with a presentation by the pupils, who also received certificates and prizes for their efforts.

Leasowes director of alternative learning and community development Chris Bennett said: “The summer school has been a huge success this year.

“Our upcoming year seven pupils have had the opportunity to build friendships, engage in physical activity and build on their progress levels in literacy and numeracy.”
