Sporting goods up for grabs for bike riding youngsters
10:54am Monday 19th August 2013 in News
SPORTING goodies are on offer to Halesowen and Cradley youngsters taking part in a sky Ride Local bike ride.
Any under 12s registered on and taking part in a Sky Ride Local bike ride will receive a Sky Ride Local sports watch when they complete their first ride. If they take part in a further two rides then they receive a free back pack.
Dudley Council and British Cycling are partnering to encourage thousands of people to dust off their bikes and get cycling again with a series of 25 led-rides. The rides are set at different levels with a range of rides suitable for families.
These include the Saltwells Wood Explorer on Sunday 25 August and Sunday 8 September at 2pm. Both rides meet on the Saltwells Lane car park. This scenic 2.2 mile, traffic free ride takes in the nature and beauty of the reserve.
Slightly older children might enjoy the Coseley West Loop on Sunday 1 September or Black County’s Bostin Views on Sunday 15 September.
A full programme is available on the website where families can choose a level suitable for their children’s age and ability level.
Helmets must be worn by all under 18s regardless of ride level. Please bring equipment with you to repair punctures, ride leaders are there to help but are not responsible for bikes. All rides leave at the time states and participants should arrive 15 minutes early for registration. Children under the age of 5 must be in a BSA approved child seat, trailer or tag-a-long.
Councillor Tracy Wood, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “Sky Ride local is tremendous fun for children and families, and these free gifts are an added incentive to get out and go for a free family ride at the weekend.
“I hope that lots of families register on the site and make the most of this free scheme.”
