SICKENING yobs burgled Halesowen Age Concern causing massive damage as well as urinating on food destined for local pensioners.
The charity on Green Lane, which caters for 40 pensioners a day, will be closed for at least a week as staff and volunteers try and fix the damage.
Staff arrived at work yesterday (morning) to discover the place wrecked by the yobs who had smashed the place up, broke locks, alarms and wrecked the CCTV system.
Disturbingly the thieves also stole food as well as cutlery and then urinated on the food that they did not steal.
Director of Halesowen Age Concern Hayley Green and Cradley South Councillor Ken Turner is disgusted with the yobs.
He said: “This is an absolute appalling incident which is already hitting the most disadvantaged people in our community as the centre will have to be closed for at least a week.
“What they did to the centre is awful, to urinate over food is disgusting, it is like there is a vendetta against these old people who use Age Concern.”
He added: “Everyone here is very upset at what has happened and the staff are working like absolute trojans to get the centre up and running again.”
“Over 40 pensioners rely on this place and to steal their food and even cutlery is beyond low.
“We are going to need the help of local industrialists and catering companies to get up and running as well as good local carpenters to fix the damage.”
Age Concern are making alternative temporary arrangements for the all the pensioners who use the centre.
The Green Lane centre is a place for elderly; and vulnerable adults to get out and socialise.
Pensioners at the centre enjoy morning tea, games and lunch and disabled passenger minibuses collect and return the pensioners from home.
